St. Oswald's Church is CLOSED
Message from John Clarke, Church Warden.
"On Friday 28th August a piece of masonry fell from the ceiling into the Chancel at St Oswald's. Fortunately no one was in the church at the time but it could have caused serious injury to anyone standing underneath it.
This has been reported to the Diocese and we are awaiting an inspection and advice from the diocesan architect before we know how serious the problem is.
To ensure public safety, the Parish Churchwardens and the PCC have made the decision to close St Oswald's until the architect has made his assessment.
The 9am BCP service on Sunday 6th September will go ahead as normal. This is in the South Chapel away from the danger and there is insufficient time to notify parishioners of a change.
In the meantime we are transferring ALL services over to St John's Church, West Avenue and will let you know as soon as we get the all clear from the diocese."

Filey Parish is now "In Vacancy".
As Rev. Phil Maudsley has left to take up his new post as "Ministry Area Leader" for the Penarth Ministry Area in South Wales, Filey Parish is now in the process of recruiting a new Vicar.
During this time of Vacancy, please contact the Parish Office (opening times at the foot of every webpage) in the first instance.

Christian Aid Week 2026
Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to Christian Aid Week this year - the total amount raised was £1343.69 - the result of a magnificent effort. This sum does not include any Gift Aid that is claimed and administered by Christian Aid. Special mention to John for all his work in co-ordinating everything this year. This means that more women like Belinda (see video below) will be able to support their families through urban gardening. Thank you all.
