August - Behold I am Doing A New Thing.

This season, for Kimberlee and I, has brought many new things into our lives. A new home, a new church, new friends, and a new way of living. We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the whole church family. Your kind cards, gifts and cakes have been a huge encouragement, for which we are most grateful. Our transition from Scarborough to Filey has been an eventful one, and the changes continue as we work on rehabilitating our house. We have been so welcomed in the Filey parish, and we look forward to serving the Lord with you.

As we come out of lockdown after having spent the last 18 months or so being restricted in many arenas of life, not least in our church life and worship, we are all finding that life is changing for us again. I suspect that the temptation to go a little crazy has gripped a few of us at some point as we come out of lockdown. We want things to get back to normal, whatever that is. However, I think that getting back to normal might not be a good idea. Indeed, I believe that we cannot do so. As we learn to live with Covid, we are forced to approach life differently. Mask or no mask? Test or no test? However, there is one thing that has not changed, and it will not. That is God’s love for all people. As the Lord’s hands and feet here in Filey, we have a responsibility to give hope to those in our community who may have lost hope during the pandemic. Lost lives, lost opportunities, lost jobs, lost health and lost hope are the consequences of this disease, yet we know that in Christ there is hope. It is important that we remember, as Archbishop William Temple once said, that “the Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of its non-members.” I would like us to consider how we may each bring hope to the community of Filey. We may have to do things differently. The Lord desires His church to grow, and we must be a part of that as we come out of lockdown. Who do you know, maybe someone who has lost hope, that you can invite into the community of the church – not necessarily for a service as a first step, but some other way to share a sense of community? This season is a new beginning for all of us. Let us walk hand in hand with God as we prayerfully seek His will for Filey. What is the new thing that the Lord is calling you to do? We are all filled with the Holy Spirit, for the purpose of ministering to our community and bringing glory to God. I would encourage us all to prayerfully consider the new thing that the Lord wants to do, in each of our hearts and in the hearts of those who do not yet know Christ. As we allow God to do a new thing in each of us, may we be transformed into His likeness and become a

community that is irresistible to those not yet part of it.

We hope that you have an enjoyable summer as we move into a bit more freedom. Since we want to get to know you all a little better, we would like to invite you to come to our house for a

get-together. Come and introduce yourself and spend some time enjoying a cool drink and a few snacks in the garden with friends. We do not have much garden furniture, so please bring your own folding chair if you have one.

Saturday 14th August from 4pm - 6pm.
